Why I ride

Wednesday 27th Mar 2024

We ride in memory of our son Alex Hawke who we lost to mental illness in April of 2017. Alex and I had found riding together to be a great bonding activity and a way we could both escape from our troubles. I did my first DGR in 2019. Then with COVID in 2020 we did the DGR ride apart together and tied it into a 10 day ride across the country to raise money for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention.

Alex suffered from manic depression and had the mind set that he had to solve this on his own. He would rarely talk about what he was going through and had a hard time asking for help. I think this tends to effect men more often as alot of us are thaught to feel that we have to be strong and not show weakness.

So I ride for Alex, and to remind myself and hopefully others that it's okay to not be okay.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Tuesday 26th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
