I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Tuesday 26th Mar 2024It is that time of the year again!!
On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.
This will be my 5th ride since I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2020. Thanks to a vigilant GP, who insisted on regular PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood tests, a well developed tumor was found in my Prostate. After reviewing options for Chemo and Radiation Therapy, I took the decision to have a Radical Prostatectomy - this removed the offending gland along with the tumor. The cancer had not spread and I am now living a normal healthy life.
I am passionate about spreading the word to all men that they should insist on regular PSA tests, this is much more effective than the old finger test as well as less unpleasant! Of course please consult your GP - I am no doctor and everyone is different, but if you are over 40 it is worth the conversation!
This disease should not be killing men, in most cases it can be cured if caught early, we need to raise awareness and continue to fund more research. Your donations also go to fund Men's mental health, another very important reason to support my ride.
Thank you all again in anticipation of your donations to these 2 important causes.

P.S. the photo here was taken circa 1972 on my 1967 BSA 650 Thunderbolt, an ex SA Police bike, that I rebuilt to go faster than existing Police biles of the time. I am lucky to be alive!!
