No name or suggetion of who he was, just a private and good man with "it is-too-hard-to-say-the-name cancer and it is going to kill me any way."
Son, father, brother, and warrior gone too soon and for no good damn reason.
Semper Fi my friend.
They are few, this type of Marine. Parachutists, pilots, naval officers, communicators, and artillerymen who are trained in smal unit operations and formed in to small teams that embed with the special operations forces of our allies and US units to "provide access to offensive capabilities they do not possess organically."
Relatively unknown, I once heard a Marine say "we didn't think you were real and were just something made up to scare people," they have, in the tiny numbers changed the battle space.
Yesterday we lost one of the best. Taken by glioblastoma, in less then ten weeks from diagnosis to his passing yesterday, we have lost a good man.
I will miss you sir, but maybe not for too long. If the hymn is true, "If the Army and the Navy ever look on heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines," I shall see you again.
Since last year, three more friends have been diagnosed with cancer. I will be riding this year thinking of them and my family members, five in all that have, or have already succumbed to, this scourge.
Though the ride in Raleigh is considered Solo, it is my hope that we are able to connect with some others and share this task.
On Sunday the 23rd of May, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember.
Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
Thank you, Dan, for continuing to support this important cause!
Go get 'em Dan!
We are cheering for you, Dan!
