Sometimes my job can be quite intense so the perfect way to deal with this is to hit the road on one of my motorbikes. As co-founder and creative director at Onstate, it’s important I keep a clear head and heading for the hills on my Triumph is the perfect way to unwind.
Getting on the bike provides an adrenaline-fuelled rush and it never fails to get me right back in the game. To quote Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds: “It’s not the safest passion to have but I guess it’s better than Russian Roulette!”
My love for motorcycles goes back to when I was 11 years old when my grandad bought me my first one - a Yamaha YZ50. He was actually a successful speedway rider in the 1950s for Bradford Odsal and England so I guess biking was always going to be in my blood.
I’ve got two bikes and they are without doubt my prized possessions – a Yamaha MT-09 Tracer and a Triumph Scrambler. I’d love more but I’m not sure my wife would be so happy about a new addition to the family! I’ve spent a fair bit of time and money renovating my man cave which is home to my bikes.
My instagram www.instagram.com/rich_rides/ is dedicated to my riding - places, people, sights and adventures. It’s all on there and a great way to document my passion for biking and share my experiences with others.
Riding gives me the freedom to explore and find so many great, new places which I wouldn’t have done if I hadn’t got my licence. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world with breathtaking places on the doorstep. I’ll sometimes set off without a plan or route and just keep going – see where the road takes me. I’ve met many great people on my adventures too – as a biker you’re always guaranteed to meet likeminded people.
Next on my list is the North Coast 500, dubbed as Scotland’s answer to Route 66. We also have a big retail client based in Dublin and I’ve been on the bike to meetings a few times. It’s easy enough to get the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin and it’s so much more fun than flying! I can also work easier on the crossing too. I’d like to extend a business trip one day and explore Ireland more but for now I’ll continue to enjoy the spectacular hills of Yorkshire.
On Sunday the 24th of September, I will don my finest attire with my fellow men and women across the globe to join the fight with The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride to raise awareness for prostate cancer and men’s mental health. But before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I need you to donate what you can for this meaningful cause and help me reach my goal.
For your uncles, your brothers, your fathers and friends. Donate what you can, for their lives need not end.
Thank you for all the donations thus far!
