I lost my father to cancer;
It happened while I was away at university. I never even got to say goodbye. That's how fast it happens.
I won't lie; he was an imperfect man as am I. But we had love. I miss him profoundly and wish I had one more hour to say what was left unsaid. I wish he could see me now. I miss his voice (dude could sing omg). He struggled with alcohol. He struggled with smoking. He beat them both towards the latter years of his life. He struggled with depression, yet somehow found the strength to defeat his demons and give life another shot. Cancer had other plans.
He died too young. Way too young.
Cancer is horrible. It takes too much, too often, from too many. Prostate cancer is so much worse because of how unwilling we are to adress is publicly. How stubborn the men in our lives are about getting screened. How little attention or affirmative action is disease is give in the media and public sphere.
Because of how underfunded the research, education and prevention efforts are. This is a huge problem and it will take huge effort to beat it. Its thanks to people like you that this will happen.
Help men like me. Help the men in your lives that you love. Help them live to their fullest.
Sometimes they slither into leather suits several sizes too small :|
And believe me, we need a few heroes. Statistically our lads are less likely to seek medical help, in general get less standardized screening, have less funding socially and governmentally and on average die a whole lot earlier than the wonderful women in our lives.
These aren't just men you're helping; It's way more personal than that. These are your own fathers, brothers, husbands, wives, partners lovers. PLUS you're helping the fathers, brothers, husbands, wives, partners lovers etc of each person you meet today. That's a heck of a gift to give the world isn't it? Did you even know you had that kind of power in you? Sounds like the stuff heroes are made of...
Join me. We NEED you. There is far too little being done to help. This is important stuff we're involved in so let's make a difference.
You'll get to see me wear a top hat on a motorcycle... what's not to love?
