Let’s Talk, Man to Man: Prostate Cancer, Mental Health & the Stuff We Don’t Say Out Loud

Hey guys,

This one’s for all the men out there who’ve ever pushed through pain, bottled things up, or told themselves, “I’ll deal with it later.”As we get older, life changes — our bodies, our energy, our stress levels. But for a lot of us, our mindset doesn’t keep up. We’re still running on that old programming: Be strong. Don’t complain. Handle it. And that can get dangerous — physically, emotionally, even spiritually. So, I want to open up a little today. Let’s talk about some of the stuff we usually avoid: prostate cancer, mental health, stress, and the weight we carry in silence.Prostate Cancer: It’s Not Just “an Old Man’s Thing”

If you’re over 50 (or even 45 with family history), prostate health should be on your radar. It’s one of the most common cancers in men.

The problem? It often shows no symptoms until it’s advanced. That’s why screening matters — PSA blood tests and those lovely (but necessary) rectal exams. Not glamorous, I know. But honestly? A few minutes of discomfort beats months of regret.

Do it for yourself. Do it for the people who love you.

Mental Health: The Stuff We Don’t Say Out Loud

Let’s be real: most of us grew up in a world where men didn’t talk about feelings. Sadness? That was weakness. Anxiety? Just “man up.” Depression? Shake it off.But that old-school thinking? It’s hurting us.

More men are dealing with burnout, anxiety, and depression than we realize — and many are suffering in silence.

What I’ve learned:

  • It’s okay to not be okay.
  • Talking to someone (a friend, a therapist, a doctor) is strength, not weakness.
  • You’re not broken. You’re human.

You wouldn’t ignore a broken bone. Don’t ignore your mental health either.

Stress: The Silent Weight on Our Shoulders

Work. Bills. Family. Expectations. Aging. Grief. Regret.

We carry a lot — often without even realizing how heavy it’s gotten.

Chronic stress wears us down in sneaky ways. Sleepless nights. Snapping at the people we love. Feeling empty, even when life looks “fine” on the outside.

Stress isn’t a badge of honor. It’s a warning light.

Give yourself permission to slow down. Breathe. Unplug. Talk. Laugh. Say no to the things that drain you, and yes to the things that feed your soul.

Final Thought: Take Care of You self , We take care of everyone else — our families, our careers, our responsibilities. But sometimes we forget the one thing that keeps all of that going: our own health.

So here’s my challenge — to myself and to you:

  • Book that check-up.
  • Talk to someone if your mind feels heavy.
  • Rest without guilt.
  • Be honest with yourself.

We’re not invincible. But we don’t have to be.

We just have to show up — fully, honestly, and healthily — for the people who matter, and for ourselves.

You’ve only got one body. One mind. One life. Let’s take care of it.

Thanks for reading. If any of this resonated with you, pass it along to a brother, a friend, or anyone who might need to hear it. We’re all in this together.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Friday 11th Apr 2025 On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
