Why I ride
Thursday 3rd Apr 2025The DGR raises money for men's health issues. I like that. It doesn't have to be specifically for men for me to like it. This past year I had an experience I never even thought was possible. In April, 2024, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. An acoustic schwannoma to be exact. The symptoms showed up two years before the diagnosis. I lost hearing in my left ear and was always dizzy and it worsened as time went on.
I had surgery in January, 2025. I was out of work for two months. I thought it would be a good time to get some rest and recharge the batteries. It turned out to be a time I had to learn to walk (without falling down) and work through facial paralysis where my eyes didn't work together. One eye wouldn't open and the other wouldn't shut. I also had an infection that just didn't want to go away.
I have become disabled.
My condition is improving. I will ride on May 18th. I will never hear with my left ear again.
I have refreshed my outlook on life. As long as I am able do good works, I will. I have been blessed. I love riding. I do other charity work, but the DGR is the only one that let's me combine two of my favorite things, helping others and riding.
Please consider donating if you are able. I won't be receiving any portion of the donations. I get to hang out and ride with some great people and help others. That's my reward. If you don't want to contribute to this cause, please consider one of the many causes out there.
