I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I am taking part once again, in the annual Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. The DGR has been going since 2012 and is the largest sponsored mortorcycle ride in the world. It happens on the same day, across 121 countries, with over 50,000 men and women mounting their classic steeds for the ride.

Since the beginning, the DGR has raised over $45m for the Movember Foundation. This is the leading global charity, helping to change the face of men's health through prosate cancer research and mental health initiatives. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that.

As well as raising awareness of prostate cancer and mental health, the DGR also looks to break the typical stereotypes motorcyclists are labelled with. We do this by "dressing dapper" for the event in our best tweeds and boots.

This year is also special for me, as I had a total shoulder replacement last April and my left arm was paralysed for almost two months afterwards. There was a time, during that dark period, when I thought I would not get on a motorcycle again, and it has been an uphill struggle to get "match fit" for the ride, but I am pretty much there now.

I really want to make a difference by raising as much as I can for the ride in May. Not only for an incredibly worthy cause, but also to make the hard work of rehab worthwhile and to thank all my family and friends, who have supported me on that journey.

So, before I press my tweeds and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these amazing causes. Please help me with whatever you can, by donating to my page and sponsoring me.
