My sidecar rig

Saturday 13th Apr 2024

This 2009 Triumph Bonneville T100 is a modern classic bike. It is almost identical as my first bike last century, a 1970 Triumph 650. The main difference today is the electric starter and the electronic fuel ignition instead of carbs.

Added to the bike frame are the links to the Cozy Euro Sidecar from https://www.cyclesidecar.com/cozy-euro-sidecar

Driving a sidecar is quite a thrill. Unlike a motorcycle, the sidecar is driven like a car, but be careful of the centrifugal forces of this three-wheel contraption.

This is the most fun toy I ever had aside from my race rocket BMW K1100RS. Now I actually quite enjoy the smooth pace that I have to go and the sidecar is ideal for short trips to Costco and the beach.

See you at the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride May 19.

Some interesting stats about prostate cancer and mental health in men

Thursday 28th Mar 2024

I discovered some intriguing statistics regarding prostate cancer on the CDC website. According to their data from 2016 to 2020, there were 111 new cases per 100,000 men reported, resulting in 19 fatalities. This means roughly 80% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer survive the ordeal.

Similarly, women face significant challenges with breast cancer, with 127 new cases per 100,000 women reported during the same period, leading to 20 deaths.

Both prostate and breast cancers rank high among their respective genders in terms of prevalence and impact.

My awareness of prostate cancer heightened when a close family member revealed undergoing chemotherapy for the past two years, with the cancer now showing signs of regression. The delay in sharing this information prompts reflection on whether it stemmed from feelings of shame or a misconception about the illness.

Conversely, another family member recently disclosed her battle with breast cancer and kept us updated on her progress post-surgery.

Men and women often differ in their approach to illness and openness about their struggles.

This discrepancy underscores broader mental health concerns, notably the rising suicide rates in the United States, which have increased by 30% since 1999. The CDC reports a staggering 45,000 lives lost to suicide in 2016, highlighting the urgency of addressing mental health issues and fostering open dialogue and support systems. I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Thursday 21st Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
