Riding for a Cause: My Day at the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Wednesday 30th Apr 2025
On a sunny Sunday morning, the streets echoed not just with the sound of engines, but with purpose. I had the privilege of joining thousands of dapper riders across the globe for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR)—an annual motorcycle event that brings classic and vintage-style bikes together for a cause greater than the ride itself: men’s health.
What Is the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride?
Founded in 2012, the DGR was inspired by a photo of Don Draper from Mad Men, suited up and riding a classic motorcycle. What started as a themed event has grown into a global movement. Today, it raises awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health, in partnership with Movember.
The Style, the Bikes, the Brotherhood
The streets were transformed. Riders showed up dressed in their finest suits, ties, vests, and tweeds—some even donning pocket watches and bowler hats. The bikes were just as much a spectacle: Triumphs, Royal Enfields, Nortons, Café Racers, Bobbers, and even custom builds rolled in, polished and purring.
It wasn’t just a ride—it was a statement. A rolling show of style and solidarity, honoring those we've lost and supporting the brothers we still can help.
The Ride Itself
Our route wound through the heart of the city, past landmarks and through tight alleyways, with pedestrians smiling and snapping photos. The mood was light, but the purpose ran deep. We were united not just by our machines, but by the message we carried.
