Reflecting on the Ride
Wednesday 12th Apr 2023As I prep for this year's charity ride, I like to reflect on why I ride, what it means, and why I think men's health is important.
Riding a motorcycle is generally seen as a more dangerous way to get around. Dozens of friends and family like to remind me of how dangerous it is, what risks I take getting on two wheels, and how careful I have to be.
It's ironic that the dangers of not taking care of yourself present just as many risks, most of which are entirely invisible. Men's prostate health is typically checked around age 40, with a rather invasive prostate exam, and by then, some cancers may have already started. Mental health is also something that may not present visible symptoms.
It's important to go to a doctor if you ever feel like "something's not right." Men are stigmatized for seeking help for many issues, and we should work to change that. Keeping everyone happy and healthy should be our top priority as a society.
While I continue to weigh my risks every time I throw a leg over my bike, I ask you all to to do the same when considering your friends and family. Check in on them. Make sure they're happy and healthy. Let's all move forward to a better future where people can feel good about feeling good again, whether that's on two wheels cruising around the countryside like me, or in an exam room or a therapist's office being reassured that they have many more years of life to look forward to.
Cheers,
Travis
I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Saturday 25th Mar 2023 On Sunday the 21st of May 2023, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives. My Sponsors
