My prostate cancer journey continues

Wednesday 24th Apr 2024

Please support this important cause for prostate cancer research! On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm supporting, for the 3rd year, The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. Although, this year I will not be able to participate in the ride due to the fact I have been diagnosed with agressive prostate cancer and will have surgery to remove my prostate on April 24. I may not have recovered sufficiently for the ride. I now realize the importance of having a PSA test EVERY year. Luckily my doctor was proactive when seeing my PSA rise over 1 point in 1 year. He recommended retesting in 6 months, at which time it had raised 2 points -- essentially doubling! By the time I saw a urologist, was scheduled for an MRI, had a biopsy of the prostate (which showed cancer with a Gleason Scale of 8, which is aggressive), had a PET scan to make sure cancer had not spread (which it had not), being scheduled for surgery with the surgeon ... all this took 6 months! I was fortunate that the cancer had not spread and was contained in the prostate, so one of the options was to remove the prostate, thus all of the cancer. If more time had passed without cancer being detected, the surgery would not be an option and I would have had to have 5 weeks of radiation & 2 years of estrogen hormone replacement therapy. With the latter treatment, if cancer recurs, removal of the prostate would not be an option. With all of this said, I encourage ALL men after age 40 -- no matter how old -- have their PSA tested EVERY year! If my doctor had skipped 1 year, plus the 6 months from diagnosis until surgery, I may have not had options with treatment because probably the cancer would have advanced significantly. Both of my parents died of cancer (not of prostate) so it weighs heavily in my mind. Prostate cancer can kill  -- so all men, please...GET YOUR PSA TESTED YEARLY and everyone, please support this important cause for prostate cancer research!  Thank you!

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Thursday 11th Apr 2024

On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
