It's About to Get Real

I am thrilled to finally be a part of the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride and, through them, be able to support the amazing mission and work of Movember. 

Let's face it: men are terrible at taking care of themselves. On average, men's life expectancy is 6 years less than women's –– and not just because we do things like find out how many balloons it takes to lift a lawn chair.

We're hard-wired not to ask for help. So very small and very preventable and treatable issues grow in the shadow of our pride until, all too often, they become (or, in the case of mental health, they seem to become, which is just as bad) insurmountable.

Prostate cancer is treatable and has a solid survival rate –– if caught early.

Likewise, depression and anxiety are real cancers of a different sort, metastacizing into all sorts of social ills –– but they are treatable.

Together we can lighten the load.

By donating to my ride in this year's DGR, you are directly helping Movember fund research in prostate cancer as well as raise awareness of the disease and help to provide access to early diagnosis and successful treatment.

A donation of any size will help fund programs that remove the barriers to mental health care. You will give vets the support they need as they transition home from service. You will give new dads access to the tools they need to be better, more stable fathers in their children's lives. You will help fund suicide prevention, fighting the quietest killer that claims the lives of 34 husbands, fathers, sons and friends in the US every day.

I am thrilled to be a part of this fight, and honored to have you here riding alongside me.
